1. Check Service Status
You'll find that our systems are up-and-running smoothly for the majority of the time, but problems do happen and sometimes we have to take systems down for maintenance.
2. Check your Settings
When entering your email settings, it's easy to miss something out or make a typo - we've all done it!
Make sure your email program is using the following settings:
- Username: your mailbox login name
- POP3: mail.yourdomain.com (or .co.uk)
- SMTP: mail.yourdomain.com (or .co.uk)
If you're not sure how to check your settings we've got step by step guides for the most popular email programs here.
3. Check your Antivirus
It shouldn't happen, but if you're using an antivirus program to scan your email then sometimes the scanning can take too long and cause the connection between your computer and our mailserver to timeout. Outlook Express/Windows Mail users may see error messages that like this: 0x800CCC**
Turn off your antivirus program and try again.
If this fixes the problem, you should contact the supplier of your antivirus software for further help. You might need to remove and re-install your antivirus program.
If this doesn't fix the problem, make sure you've checked everything mentioned on this page and contact our support team for more help.
4. Check your Firewall
Sometimes a firewall can block an email program by mistake. If you use a firewall and you're having connection or timeout problems when using email try turning off your firewall for a few minutes.
If this fixes the problem, you should contact the supplier of your firewall software for further help. You might need to remove and re-install your firewall program.
If this doesn't fix the problem, make sure you've checked everything mentioned on this page and then contact our Support Team.
5. Contact Us
If the steps above have not solved your problem and you've had a look at the Common Email Problems Guide, then the next step is to contact us.
6. Socket Error 10060 / 10061
It's increasingly common for ISP's (such as Bt Internet, Orange Internet, O2) and telephony providers to block SMTP access to mailservers other than their own or to actively proxy SMTP traffic when you are connected to the Internet through their network.
This can lead to problems as often remote workers will want to ensure email they send is tracked through MDaemon or they are unable to authenticate with MDaemon successfully before sending email as the ISP has proxied this traffic and the authentication credentials are never passed to MDaemon.
As these companies tend to only monitor the default SMTP port (TCP 25) for such access you can often workaround this limitation by opening another port to the Internet that MDaemon will also listen for incoming SMTP connections on and configure your users email clients to send email on this port instead.
Method:
There are two ports in MDaemon that will enable this - TCP 366 (ODMR) and TCP 587 (MSA) - and both these ports are already active in MDaemon.
Once you've opened the port to the Internet it is now necessary to configure those remote email clients to send email on this port:
Outlook:
- Click on Tools -> Email Accounts and choose "Next" when the Email Accounts Wizard appears.
- Highlight the account you wish to change and then click on the "Change" button.
- Click on "More Settings" and then click on the "Advanced" tab.
- Now change the Outgoing Server (SMTP) port value from 25 to either 366 or 587 (depending on the port you've opened)
- Click "OK" on each window until you are back at the Wizard window and then click "Finish".
Outlook Express:
- Click on Tools -> Accounts -> Mail and select the email account you wish to modify, then click Properties.
- Click on the "Advanced" tab.
- Now change the Outgoing Server (SMTP) port value from 25 to either 366 or 587 (depending on the port you've opened)
- Click "OK" to save the change.
